The Metamorphosis reveals one’s desire to be unique and internal struggle to escape one’s physical existence. The negotiation between one’s internal and external world also implies a conflict between individual identification and social homogenization. Artist’s face is dramatically transformed into a scary or farcical image and ultimately dissolved away. The face, as a common means of identification, is challenged and questioned due to its metamorphosis.
